Donning
Outside the patient room.
Mnemonic: Give ME Hope → Gown, Mask, Eyewear, Hands (gloves)
- Hand hygiene.
- Don gown.
- Hand hygiene.
- Don mask.
- Hand hygiene.
- Don glasses/face shield.
- Hand hygiene.
- Don gloves.
- Enter patient room.
Doffing
Inside the patient room.
- Hand hygiene (can do over gloves if not visibly soiled).
- Doff gloves and gown simultaneously.
- Hand hygiene.
- Doff face shield (if wearing glasses, keep them on).
- Hand hygiene.
- Exit patient room.
Outside patient room.
- Hand hygiene.
- Doff glasses and clean them.
- Hand hygiene.
- Doff mask.
- Hand hygiene.
- Don surgical mask.
